About the Author
Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification―in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator. His first job in children's books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK's Children's Division and was Managing Director of the children's mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK. In 2000, he created Priddy Books with John Sargent at St Martin's Press to create innovative and imaginative titles for children, from first books for babies through early reference titles for older children. What a great book for little kids! My grandson is so into dinosaurs and this book is perfect for him. He "reads" it every day even though he is not quite 3 years old. He loves the pictures and so do I as they are very bright and vibrant with about half of the photos have body shots. There is a small description of each dinosaur but there isn't any pronunciation guide which I think would be very helpful. Love the questions on each page so your little one can find what the answer is.This is a perfect book for toddlers and they will get many hours of enjoyment out of it.
Kids are almost universally fascinated by dinosaurs...and my kids are the same in this regard. They love this book. It has lots of pictures, they are colorful and are printed on heavy stock paper that is likely to last a long time even for kids. Ever since my kids watched a recent dinosaur movie, they became obsessed with learning the names of many dinosaurs and this book does that job perfectly with big bold writing and nice pictures throughout. The size is about eleven inches by eleven inches, so it is a nice big size as the name implies. Highly recommended.(I attached a picture to show size comparison to a normal water tumbler)
My 3-year old son has the dinosaur fever. This book, although bulky, it's greatly illustrated with the name and fun facts about dinosaurs. We gathered his dinosaur toys and look them up in this book. I like that it is sturdy, which means that my son can play with his dinosaurs along with this book, and not destroy the book.
Unfortunately this is not my favorite dinosaur book. There is not any info about dinosaurs in it. Instead it’s more of a look and find book. Pages ask, “which dinosaur has 2 horns on its head?†Or “which dinosaur has a beak like a duck?â€The pictures are pretty ok- they are like funny old clay models almost.My son is 2 and likes when I read, but there’s not much for me to read so a bit of info would have been better. I also got the Nat. Geo Kids Dino-pedia book and the pics are waaaay better! The nat geo book is massive so I know it will last a long time as there is a good paragraph or two about each dinosaur (with pronunciation). My recommendation would be to get that instead of this.All that being said, my son DOES like to look at this book, I just can tell it a short lived book of interest.
Well first of all, my son does like this book because it has pictures of dinosaurs and he LOVES dinosaurs. However, it is mostly pictures and just asks one question about the dinosaurs on each page. I wish it included more facts/information. I also don't like how some of the same pictures are repeated multiple times, it seems a little lazy. I also like the dinosaur books that are a little more colorful because we don't know what colors dinosaurs actually were, so why not make them brighter colors instead of just neutral (this is not my primary complaint though). I mostly wish there were was more info in the book, more for me to actually read to him, and that the pictures had more variety.
I purchased this book for my 11 month old daughter. I know the title is My BIG Dinosaur book, but I somehow didn't expect it to be so big. My baby loves the bright colors and the size of the book makes it harder for her to catch her fingers when turning the pages. There are so many dinosaurs in this book, including many not-so-popular ones. I also like that the dinosaurs are more realistic looking rather than looking more like cartoons. This would be a great book for young children who love dinosaurs.
We love this book because both my sons are infatuated by dinosaurs and this book has more than just your typical T-Rex or Stegosaurus. It also categorizes the dinosaurs by carnivores, herbivores, armored skin, etc. It also lists them by the scientific name their scientific name, however, does not have a pronunciation with it, so some might be harder for younger kids to say correctly. Otherwise, great book with awesome pictures!!

One would think this would be a good primer for smaller kids who are beginning to discover their love for dinosaurs. However, the content is somewhat subpar as it ends up as only about 6 pages of pictures, and they repeat some dinosaur photos over and over. The photos are also weird looking, like its the work of some amateur taxidermist who was high on glue the whole time. Its definitely misssing the most common dinosaurs (maybe they lacked the license for those photos). But my toddler girl who has been obsessed with dinosaurs for the last year was looking for more. I would like to believe that for the price, there should be a better dino book out there. Buy only when desperate... and only if the reciepient is midly interested in these creatures.
